TaxPlan Income Tax Assistance

MMP’s TaxPlan clinics are based on US IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) programme guidelines.

We also require that participants are students. TaxPlan clinics offer tax education, tax preparation and e-filing of returns.

To participate, students must be US residents of the state of California, live in a San Francisco Bay Area county, and make $58,000 or less annually.

Participants must be currently enrolled in secondary, college, university, or vocational school classes.

Even if you are not a student, if you made less than $73,000 in 2021, you can still get free help from several programmes.

They are sponsored by US organisations, including the United Way, AARP, and the Internal Revenue Service.

United Way: Since 2009, the United Way’s MyFreeTaxes programme has helped more than 1.3 million taxpayers.

If you earned less than $73,000 in 2021, you can file your own taxes for free with their link to TaxSlayer software.

You can also call their helpline during tax season: MyFreeTaxes

AARP Foundation: Tax-Aide provides in-person and virtual tax assistance to anyone, free of charge.

Their mission is to serve taxpayers who are over 50 and have low to moderate income. But they help others too.

The Tax-Aide site locator tool, and the sites, are only available during the US tax season: Tax-Aide sites

IRS VITA: If you made $58,000 or less in 2021 and need in-person help with preparation: IRS VITA programme

VITA sites are only open during tax season: IRS VITA sites

MMP’s San Francisco Bay Area TaxPlan clinics will be available annually from February 1st-April 15th.
